Large Global Provider of Energy, Water, and Waste Management Chooses Hughes Managed SASE to Secure 10,000 Users
Customer
A Europe-based global provider of energy, water, and waste management services, operating more than 400 locations across North America, partnered with Hughes to consolidate two disparate network infrastructures and enable secure connectivity for 10,000 users.
The organization sought a next-generation network with advanced cybersecurity capabilities to support its hybrid workforce across 300 locations.
Challenge
A recent acquisition created the need to unify two legacy network infrastructures that were outdated and incompatible. This resulted in added complexity which strained limited internal resources and increased the organization’s operational and security risk.
The company had a mix of on-premises, private cloud, and SaaS applications with no uniform security policies in place. Their hybrid workforce consisted of full-time employees working from corporate offices and contractors working remotely—all requiring a different set of access privileges.
In addition, their non-standardized WAN implementation created management challenges, and the legacy VPN was not adequate in providing secure and consistent connectivity.
Solution
The Hughes team collaborated closely with the customer to identify key challenges and the business outcomes they were trying to achieve. Together, they evaluated and decided on the optimal mix of technologies and managed services to address those needs.
After engaging with Hughes, the customer chose Hughes Managed SASE for 300 of its water treatment facilities and 10,000 users. Hughes was selected for our deep SD-WAN expertise, proven experience in deploying, migrating, and managing complex networks, and our ability to customize the solution to meet both short-term and longer-term business objectives.
Today, the Hughes solution spans North America, with another recent acquisition expanding the footprint to an additional 82 locations and more than 1,000 employees in the near future.
Outcome
The Hughes Managed SASE solution is being deployed at their water treatment facilities through a phased, 24-month rollout, beginning with the replacement of legacy VPN infrastructure. The Hughes Network and Security Operations teams will lead the installation and deployment of the following:
- SD-WAN for remote locations, with separation between operational and information technology traffic
- Fortinet next-generation Firewall-as-a-Service (FWaaS)
- Netskope Security Service Edge (SSE), including secure web gateways (SWGs) with migration of existing policies, Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB), Data Loss Prevention (DLP), and Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) for private applications
- Dual DIA and broadband synchronous circuits
- Remote Browser Isolation (RBI)
- Clientless, browser-based access for contractors
- Security event feed to customer’s global Security Operations Center
