Alliance for Workplace Excellence Recognizes Hughes for Diversity, Health & Wellness, Environmental Sustainability and Overall Workplace Quality
Germantown, MD, July 19, 2018 — The Alliance for Workplace Excellence (AWE) has awarded Hughes Network Systems, LLC (Hughes), an EchoStar company and the global leader in broadband satellite networks and services, four awards for workplace excellence. Hughes accolades include the 2018 AWE Workplace Excellence and Health & Wellness Seals of Approval as well as the AWE EcoLeadership and Diversity Champion Awards. 2018 marks the 19th consecutive year Hughes has been honored by AWE as an outstanding place to work.
“Hughes solutions enable a more productive and engaged society, and our company culture reflects that commitment to connectivity, belonging and prosperity,” said Pradman Kaul, president of Hughes. “It’s an honor to receive outside recognition for our efforts from AWE. We strive for diversity, environmental sustainability, employee health and wellness and overall workplace excellence because it’s the right thing for our employees, and therefore our customers and our business.”
Hughes offers employees advanced technology, flexible work arrangements, continuing education opportunities, health and wellness programs, recreation and cultural activities and opportunities to volunteer. A Montgomery County, Maryland, certified “Green Business,” Hughes commitment to the environment includes support of local clean up and beautification efforts and employee programs like company-wide recycling and Earth Day celebrations. On site healthy food options, fitness and health classes, and a robust intramural sports program round out the company’s health and wellness offerings.
Hughes is one of only 11 businesses to receive the 2018 AWE Diversity Champion award for companies committed to creating a diverse and inclusive work environment. AWE evaluates company leadership, workforce demographics, and diversity of products and services and supplier networks to determine winners. Some of the company’s inclusive practices include mentorship programs, engagement and learning opportunities and cultural enrichment activities, including a company cricket league.
“Hughes strives every day to build and maintain a work environment that attracts great talent and empowers our extraordinary innovators and problem solvers to thrive,” said Kaul.
AWE award recipients undergo a rigorous assessment process led by an independent review panel of business professionals and master’s degree and/or Ph.D. students in the fields of business, industrial and organizational psychology, human resources, environmental science, public health and diversity and inclusion.
