Hughes Launches High-Speed Satellite Internet Service in Ecuador

HughesNet^®,world’s largest satellite Internet service expands footprint in Western Hemisphere, reaching more than 90% of Ecuadorean homes, helping to bridge the digital divide

Quito, December 10, 2018 – Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), the global leader in broadband satellite networks and services, today announced the launch of  HughesNet®, its high-speed satellite Internet service for consumers and businesses, in Ecuador. Operating over the Hughes 63 West High-Throughput Satellite (HTS) payload, its broadband coverage reaches more than 90 percent of homes throughout Ecuador, including  areas unserved or underserved by terrestrial providers. According to figures from the National Institute of Statistics and the Ecuador Census, though Internet penetration is over 50% in urban areas, 61% of people in rural areas do not have access to the Internet.
