Cellular Backhaul Expand Coverage and Open New Opportunities For Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) looking to expand markets and add new subscribers, Hughes offers an ideal – and cost-effective – cellular backhaul solution. Satellite backhaul makes it feasible to offer cellular services in areas that are impossible or prohibitively expensive to reach using traditional terrestrial means, such as fiber, cable or microwave. MNOs in countries from India to South Africa to Peru count on Hughes to backhaul cellular traffic for their most difficult-to-reach service areas, and they’re using the service to carry 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE traffic across hundreds of sites. Hughes market-leading JUPITER™ System, a high-performance, field-proven satellite networking solution, backhauls all generations of cellular technologies. Advantages of the JUPITER System: High performance, with 200 Mbps+ throughput per terminal with acceleration High efficiency, with integrated 4G/LTE optimization, saving up to 60% of satellite bandwidth Powerful features, including 4G/LTE acceleration, IEEE 1588v2 timing, built-in GPS Advanced enhancements, such as 600milisecond latency, 10-millisecond jitter, outdoor packaging and lower power consumption The Advantages of the Hughes JUPITER System for Cellular Backhaul White Paper Download On Cellular Backhaul by Satellite Infographic Download On JUPITER System Sets the Standard for Efficiency and Performance Infographic Download On Satellite Cellular Backhaul Solutions Brochure Download On Making Internet Accessible and Affordable for Unconnected Populations White Paper Download On Media Networks Latin America (MNLA) Case Study Download On JUPITER™ System for Satellite Backhaul The growing global demand for 4G and LTE mobile connectivity presents a significant challenge in many ex-urban and semi-rural areas. These markets are often located in difficult-to-serve, remote areas where terrestrial fiber or microwave services are not readily available to support the backhaul links for base station locations. To bring service to these areas, mobile operators require a low-cost and effective means for interconnecting cellular base stations, regardless of distance, infrastructure, or terrain. Satellite technology, which can be rapidly and cost-effectively deployed to nearly any area around the globe, is an ideal solution for meeting this challenge... DOWNLOAD TO READ MORE The Hughes JUPITER System can be deployed rapidly virtually anywhere in the world. It is the clear choice for interconnecting cellular base stations in rural and hard-to-reach areas, and can be implemented as a backup to urban terrestrial links or to rural sites with multiple microwave hops. Such a combined terrestrial and satellite backhaul architecture yields the highest possible network availability by virtue of two alternate path technologies—with the satellite path being more robust when disaster strikes and capable of quicker service restoral in the aftermath. 4G/LTE Acceleration with 200 Mbps Throughput The integrated 4G/LTE acceleration of the JUPITER System brings fast speeds, great user experience and industry leading efficiency. With a forward channel supporting rates beyond 1 Gbps and the processing power to deliver up to 200 Mbps to each VSAT and up to 50 Mbps in the return direction, the JUPITER System supports true 4G/LTE speeds. The system provides flexibility for operation in TDMA mode in the return direction for sites with the burst traffic profiles typical of cell traffic as well as operation in TDM mode for sites with aggregated traffic that is less time-varying. Industry Best Latency and Jitter Performance Fully compliant with IPoS, the industry’s leading satellite air interface, approved by TIA, ETSI and TIA, including DVB-S2 and ACM (adaptive coding and modulation) in the forward channel, the JUPITER System is well matched to backhaul cellular traffic. The round-trip latency is reduced to approximately 600 milliseconds and one-way jitter to 10 milliseconds, resulting in superior voice quality and efficient data throughput―essential for real-time applications. Full Range of Solutions Hughes offers a full range of satellite-based RAN backhaul solutions for mobile operators to enable rapid and cost-effective service expansion into rural or hard-to-serve markets. These solutions provide high-quality satellite backhaul while optimizing space segment resource utilization by coupling the appropriate satellite technology with intelligent traffic optimization.
