No Deployment Too Remote for Internet Access

Soldier connected with family

Hughes Mission Connect delivers Internet service wherever the mission takes you

In 2020, the U.S. Department of Defense cited active-duty civilian personnel in more than 150 countries, with staff engaged in peacekeeping missions, military attaches and security engagements, and as part of an embassy presence. This is in addition to U.S. military engagements. Regardless of where civilian and military personnel serve, they need connectivity to meet their mission. Yet getting high speed Internet connectivity abroad can be a challenge for defense agencies because it typically requires the procurement of services from foreign entities. In swift deployments, that becomes even more challenging – just as the need for connectivity is more urgent.

The new Hughes Mission Connect solves these problems by offering military and defense customers customized satellite Internet solutions abroad, from a trusted name at home.

“Thanks to our global partnerships, we can deliver satellite service practically anywhere in the world. For instance, through our joint venture with Yahsat, we have access to High-Throughput Ka-band capacity across the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa,” explained Wayne Marhefka, senior director, Hughes Defense. “Hughes has spent considerable time cultivating strong partnerships with leading operators everywhere. These partnerships offer our defense customers speed to deployment, proven technologies, and the added peace of mind that comes with knowing they are dealing with an industry leader in satellite communications that is headquartered in the U.S. As a result, they don’t need to think twice about the procurement process.”

As a satellite-based solution, Hughes Mission Connect can support distributed teams and those on the frontlines by linking them to HQ and to one another. This includes operations and tactical teams in the most remote areas, where terrestrial access is completely absent. Tailored to meet specific mission needs, Hughes Mission Connect can be customized by multiple broadband speed tiers, shared data pools, and flexible billing schedules.

Hughes Mission Connect uses a compact, easy to install Hughes VSAT antenna, capable of transmitting up to 25 Mbps, and is available with solar power options for off-grid operations. The Hughes user terminal comes Wi-Fi equipped, able to support up to 25 Wi-Fi devices simultaneously. With global access to High Throughput Satellite capacity, personnel who are practically anywhere on the planet can be assured reliable, high-speed broadband access. And procuring Hughes Mission Connect is easy through SEWP and other contracting vehicles.

Morale, Welfare and Recreation

Of course, when military personnel are stationed abroad, their need to connect doesn’t diminish once their day is done. If anything, they need to be in touch with family and friends at home and find ways to keep up morale and stay engaged. Connectivity becomes essential to their morale, welfare, and recreation. When they have the type of high-speed Internet access that’s possible with Mission Connect, they have the bandwidth they need to read their child a favorite bedtime story over FaceTime, help with homework, watch videos and listen to music from their favorite bands –  all the same types of activities they’re used to enjoying at home.

With Hughes Mission Connect, not only can deployed personnel connect to what matters to them, they gain the access they need to get the job done – regardless of where the mission takes them.
