Predictions from Hughes Engineers and Innovators for 2022 and Beyond December 06, 2021 Satellite is Essential , Connecting the Unconnected false To commemorate the 50th anniversary since the start of Hughes, we surveyed employees worldwide for their insights on a wide range of topics, including what they see on the horizon. Throughout 2021, we’ve revealed the results as we’ve celebrated a half century of innovation brought about by the brightest engineering minds and a penchant for solving connectivity challenges around the world. Here, we culminate our anniversary celebration by highlighting employees’ five predictions for the future of the industry and the role that Hughes will play in 2022 and beyond. Connectivity that’s technology agnostic. Across the board, employees see the continued convergence of geostationary (GEO) satellites, non-geostationary (NGSO) constellations, and terrestrial access technologies for broadband services. They also see Hughes playing a significant role in this integration, with the interoperability between technologies and systems becoming seamless and pervasive. Closing the digital divide. As Hughes and other industry leaders progress the effort to combine satellite and ground unit technology with other platforms, and as 5G gains more traction, rural markets will experience increasingly dynamic, efficient and improved services—helping to narrow the gap in the digital divide. Proactivity and prediction. Reactivity will give way to proactivity and prediction, as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) become standard for managed network services on which people, enterprises and governments depend. The development of new digital AI-driven technology standards—led by Hughes—will improve connectivity availability and performance at a global level. Blended technologies, hardware and comms capabilities. With the integration and interoperability of platforms made possible by Hughes technologies, anytime/anywhere connectivity will blend wireless and satellite transports for truly ubiquitous mobility. When networked with other technologies, like digital signage, communications will become an immersive digital experience. Satellite-enabled public services. Connectivity is essential for governments around the world to deliver much needed services to citizens—be it education, healthcare, law enforcement or emergency services. With the potential of a single global network, satellite technology will enable developing nations and governing bodies at all levels to serve and thrive. For 50 years, Hughes employees have been developing the very technologies, services and solutions that form the foundation for this connected future. And we’re just getting started--Hughes employees see an infinite number of ways the company will contribute to the connectivity and communications of tomorrow.
