HughesNet Celebrates Five Years in Colombia
Launched in Colombia in 2017, HughesNet connects families and small businesses in more than 1,000 municipalities.
Germantown, MD, October 20, 2022— Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), an innovator in satellite and multi-transport technologies and networks for over 50 years, today celebrates the fifth anniversary in Colombia of HughesNet®, the company’s flagship high-speed satellite internet service. Reaching 96% of the population of Colombia, HughesNet is now available in more than 1,000 of the country’s municipalities. Through reliable high-speed satellite connectivity, HughesNet brings internet access across the country to communities where land-based internet services like fiber and cable are not available.

Supporting the rural communities it serves, HughesNet launched its Conectando sueños (Connecting Dreams) campaign to help connect more Colombians to the internet. As part of the program, in collaboration with UDCA university and iNNpulsa Colombia, HughesNet sponsors digital training for rural companies and awards free months of service to aid families and small businesses.
“Learning how to use the internet to grow our agricultural business, sell, connect with new clients and find new educational possibilities – some free – has a substantial impact in our communities,” said Rosa López, leader of Asodelicia ARV, a union of farmers in Cundinamarca, Colombia, that benefit from the digital training and HughesNet service. “As an association we learn the skills, but as a community we share them with our neighbors and they share with theirs, helping a bigger group of families to connect and improve our opportunities – thanks to HughesNet.”
Hughes has served Colombia for over 20 years, supporting government connectivity programs and enterprise networks.
