Why Engineering is the Backbone of Hughes

It’s National Engineers Week! While we celebrate and support our world-class engineers every day here at Hughes, this week we’re spotlighting three ways we are dedicated to pursuing engineering excellence.

  1. Fostering STEM leaders of tomorrow. We’re committed to developing the next generation of engineering leaders. Since 2014, we’ve supported 4-H in their mission of making Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education resources more accessible for youth, wherever they live. This includes sponsoring the 4-H Youth in Action STEM Pillar Award for the last five years and expanding the STEM Lab (now part of the 4-H at Home) program. In honor of National Engineers Week, we’ve got the perfect activity for the future engineer in your life -- check out our latest 4-H at Home interactive activity demonstrating space exploration for kids.
  2. Hiring – and developing – the best and brightest. Did you know that half of Hughes employees have an Engineering or Computer Science degree?? Our STEM Career Highlight series showcases a variety of engineers employed at Hughes, including a network support engineer, a systems engineer and a Robotic Process Automation (RPA) specialist. With nearly 500 patents to our name, we are committed to a culture of continuous innovation. Our achievements are consistently recognized in the industry, with Hughes engineers receiving top awards from the IEEE, SSPI and more.

We’re always in the market for top-tier talent to join our engineering team. If you’re interested in an exciting career developing connectivity solutions for millions of people, businesses, governments and communities around the world, take a look at our list of open positions.
  3. Powering technology innovation. For over half a century, our commitment to engineering has propelled Hughes to the forefront of satellite technology. From inventing the two-way Very Small Aperture Terminal, to creating satellite internet, to producing complex gateway electronics for OneWeb and delivering continuous enhancements to the JUPITER™ System, our engineers are at the heart of everything we do here at Hughes.

Our commitment to engineering runs deep – it’s no surprise that the five most influential Hughes employees, as identified by their colleagues, all have their roots in engineering. Our industry leadership is anchored by our excellence in engineering, allowing Hughes to power a connected future for people, enterprises and things everywhere.
