The PSTN Switch-Off

Are you ready for the PSTN Switch-Off? The most significant digital transformation – coming in January 2027.

What you need to know about the PSTN Switch-Off

What is the PSTN Switch-Off?

Scheduled for 2027, The (Public Switched Telephone Network) PSTN Switch-Off pinpoints a shift in telecommunications. Traditional landline services will be switched from the old analogue to VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). BT Openreach has made this move as they initiated a nationwide halt to the sale of traditional landlines.

Why is the PSTN Switch-Off happening?

With the rise of Teams, Zoom, smartphones, apps, and cloud technology, landlines are becoming increasingly obsolete. This also means all the copper wires can be replaced with new fast-fibre ones.

Who does this affect?

This technological advancement affects everyone, businesses and homes; think about your phone services and everything that uses the ‘old phone network’. This includes all your non-voice services connected to PSTN or Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), such as alarms, machines, single lines, etc.
