Our new SPACEWAY 3 platform represents the largest step forward in the history of satellite communications. This new satellite broadband platform that forms the basis for the next generation of Hughes services. The SPACEWAY3 satellite was successfully launched on August 14, 2007 and commercial service in North America began April 8, 2008.

What is SPACEWAY?
SPACEWAY 3 is a next-generation satellite system whose unique capabilities enables high-speed data networking, and unlocks a wealth of value-added Hughes services. Operating in globally-assigned Ka-band spectrum, SPACEWAY 3 employs high-performance, onboard digital processing, packet switching, and spot-beam technology to offer direct site-to-site connectivity at rates of from 512 kbps up to 16 Mbps. SPACEWAY 3 combines the traditional advantages of satellite, namely ubiquitous reach and efficient broadcast/multicast, with high data rates and mesh connectivity--to give customers a fast, efficient, flexible, and cost-effective communications solutions.

The Heart of the Satellite
Look inside of SPACEWAY 3 reveals a dazzling array of complex equipment. Key components are:

The Bus: This is the engine of the satellite, which maintains the orbital position and provides the basic services necessary to operate the payload. These include propulsion, power generation and storage, and thermal control.

The Payload: This is the communication system, or cargo, of the satellite. It consists of the uplink antenna, switch matrix, digital signal processor, 10 Gbps fast packet switch, and downlink phased array antenna.
Advanced Technology
Through use of advanced multi-spot-beam antenna and onboard data processing technologies, SPACEWAY satellites are at the vanguard of the most advanced next generation high-capacity Ka-band satellites. Such capabilities are the foundation for a host of advanced features such as full-mesh, single-hop connectivity among customer terminals.

SPACEWAY 3 represents the most sophisticated advanced packet transmission infrastructure complete with IP-based user interfaces, satellite terminals, comprehensive network management and service management functionality, all optimized to provide end-to-end broadband access and network connectivity services.
