Germantown, Md., May 19, 2015Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), the global leader in broadband satellite solutions and services, was named a finalist in the corporate social responsibility category of the 2015 American Business Awards (ABA). The company was nominated for its partnership between HughesNet®, the nation’s leading high-speed satellite Internet service, and 4-H to promote interest in STEM education via local, regional and national campaigns to help get America’s youth involved in science and technology activities.

The ABA is considered the nation’s preeminent business awards program. All organizations operating in the U.S. are eligible to submit nominations—public and private, for-profit and non-profit, large and small. Hughes is competing in the category for organizations of up to 2,500 employees, to be chosen as a winner of either a Gold, Silver or Bronze Stevie® Award

“This is great recognition for a program that has already reached so many young people all over the country,” said Mike Cook, senior vice president, North America Division at Hughes. “Our Hughes and 4-H team has put a lot of effort into making this collaboration successful, and the kind of rewarding hands-on learning it provides for our youth is surely one of the best ways to cultivate their interest in STEM education.”

“We are proud of our partnership and the innovative ways HughesNet and 4-H are sparking enthusiasm for science among young people in communities across America,” said Jennifer Sirangelo, president and CEO, National 4-H Council. “It’s exciting to see the nation’s largest youth development organization and the world’s leading provider of satellite broadband for home and office working together to inspire the next generation of innovators and leaders in STEM.”

More than 3,300 nominations from organizations of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted this year. Finalists were chosen by scores of business professionals nationwide during first-round judging in April and May, and several specialized judging committees will determine Stevie Award placements from among them later this month.

The American Business Awards will be presented at two events; the ABA’s traditional banquet on Monday, June 22 in Chicago, and the new product and technology awards event on Friday, September 11 in San Francisco.
