MSUA Recognizes Hughes Defense’s Airborne SATCOM Capability
In March at SATELLITE 2017, the industry’s premier event held in Washington DC, the Mobility Satellite Users Association (MSUA) announced that the Hughes HM200 Modem was selected for its 2017 Top Aeronautical SATCOM Innovation Award. The annual award recognizes an MSUA member that is leading the way in developing innovative satellite mobility solutions.
Designed to meet the demanding requirements of Beyond-Line-of-Sight communications, the Hughes HM200 enables manned and unmanned aircraft to deliver a constant and reliable feed of HD video and other critical real-time data, ensuring users can maintain situational awareness of airborne missions across the globe. Ideal for rotary wing platforms, it employs an innovative waveform enhancement for secure and high-speed connectivity with zero packet loss, even when transmitting through rotating blades. Integration of the HM200 with two lightweight antennas yields the multi-purpose Hughes HeloSat Solution, supporting a range of applications such as intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, search/rescue, and disaster response.
“Enabling efficient, real-time airborne communications is critical for the defense market,” said Rick Lober, vice president and general manager of Hughes Defense. “We are honored to be recognized by the MSUA for the high standards we strive to achieve in delivering next-generation airborne SATCOM to the armed forces.”
Development of the innovative HM200 was completed in 2015, and a key Hughes partner was Kontron. They produced the ruggedized enclosure and embedded platform for the integrated Hughes HeloSat Solution, ensuring its low size, weight, and power satisfy end-user reliability requirements, especially in harsh environments.
