EchoStar XVII

EchoStar XVII with JUPITER high throughput technology is a next generation, Ka-band satellite which was successfully launched July 5, 2012.  It is designed with 120 Gbps of capacity―over 10 times the capacity of SPACEWAY 3 and up to 100 times more than today’s conventional Ku-band satellites. Like Echostar XIX, the satellite employs a multi-spot beam, bent-pipe Ka-band architecture and operates in geostationary orbit to enable HughesNet high-speed Internet services in North America. Its capabilities augmented the successful SPACEWAY 3 satellite system, the world’s first with on-board switching and routing, which Hughes put into commercial service in April 2008.
