ROCKVILLE, MD – The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) will honor Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES) with The Corporate Achievement Award at its annual Business Awards Dinner on Thursday, November 20, 2014.
The Corporate Achievement Award is presented to an individual or company that has made a significant and lasting contribution to the local economy and to the community by demonstrating leadership, innovation, commitment and good corporate citizenship in Montgomery County and beyond.
“On behalf of all the employees of Hughes worldwide, I will be honored to accept this award,” said Pradman Kaul, president. “Little did the founders know that their original startup in a Rockville garage would end up a global technology and services leader—yet remain headquartered in Montgomery County for 43 years—which is a testament to the robust technology development community and high caliber of work-life balance here in Montgomery County.”
In 1971, the company was founded as Digital Communication Corp of Gaithersburg by eight alumni of Comsat Laboratories. Today, Hughes is the world’s leading provider of satellite broadband, delivering innovative network technologies, managed solutions and services for consumers, enterprises and governments globally. Hughes has shipped more than 4 million systems to customers in over 100 countries, representing approximately 50 percent market share; it became a wholly owned subsidiary of EchoStar Corporation in 2011.
With revenue exceeding $1Billion, the company employs 1,200 in its Germantown headquarters and 1,900 worldwide. The measurement of its stellar achievement includes multiple years of recognition for workplace excellence, employee diversity and inclusion, health and wellness, along with EcoLeadership as a Montgomery County Green Certified Business.
“HUGHES leadership is recognized worldwide,” said Gigi Godwin, President & CEO, MCCC. “We are proud to have them headquartered here in Montgomery County, Maryland.”
