RAN Backhaul Using the Hughes HX System

Efficient RAN Solutions from Hughes

The Hughes HX System is ideally suited for RAN backhauling. The HX System supports high quality jitter-free bandwidth in a very cost-effective and scalable configuration. Individual remote terminals can be configured for guaranteed inroute bandwidth while maintaining multiple priority levels.

The HX System comprises of one or more HX Gateways and HX remote terminals. The HX Gateways are fully redundant and incorporate advanced bandwidth management features. The HX remote terminals are rack mountable and support high speed inroutes.

Key features of the HX System for RAN Backhaul:

  • Significant space segment savings over an SCPC solution without sacrificing quality.
  • Quick payback on equipment
  • Simple and economical network expansion
  • Add more channels without any remote hardware change
  • Remote equipment competitively priced
  • No upgrade required to the standard HX gateway
  • End-to-end management of network
  • Easy integration with other Hughes platforms for service expansion
HX System for RAN Backhaul

The HX system offers the HX-100 with features geared toward the Cellular backhaul market. The HX-100 utilizes the HX System’s DVB-S2 carrier capable of up to 121 Mbps download speeds and uplinks of up to 3.2 Mbsp. The HX-100 comes with two LAN ports allowing customers to create two separate LANs for GSM traffic and other VoIP or Internet traffic on the second port. The HX-100 offers customers with a rugged 1U chassis suitable for deployments in rural locations, in DC power supply requirements, and in Telco networks with other rack-mountable hardware. The HX-100 works in combination with an Abis-IP GSM Optimizer to provide an ideal cost-effective and bandwidth-effective backhaul solution for GSM Network Operators.

Key to the HX System is the ability to provide dynamic allocation of bandwidth to economically support such QoS features as dynamic Constant Bit Rate(CBR) QOS for two-way Voice and Video applications. This dynamic CBR allows for low-jitter and low-latency connections between remotes and gateways that allows for high quality of Voice backhaul while being bandwidth efficient in only providing the remote with required bandwidth based on application.
