Regenerative Satellite Mesh (RSM-A) is a state-of-the-art broadband satellite CAI standard using Hughes designed waveforms for use with regenerative or processing (non bent pipe) satellites such as SPACEWAY. The SPACEWAY satellite has over 10 Gbps of capacity and hundreds of spot beams. Optimized for Ka-Band use, the waveform is designed to support mesh connectivity connecting VSAT to VSAT in a single satellite hop, thereby eliminating the need for a hub connection.

Geo-Mobile Radio (GMR-1) is a Mobile Satellite System (MSS) CAI standard that has continued to evolve over the last several years. Release 1 supports basic circuit switch voice and data services comparable to second generation cellular telephony such as GSM. Release 2 (GMPRS-1) added packet data services comparable to 2.5 generation cellular such as GPRS. Release 3 evolves GMR-1 to a third generation (GMR-1 3G) satellite-based packet service equivalent to 3GPP standards. GMR-1 3G is a state of the art IP-based waveform supporting voice, data, and video applications. The physical and data link layers are optimized for a satellite transport, while the higher layers use cellular protocols so as to work directly with cellular core network elements. This strategy allows for dual mode satellite/wireless user terminals with minimal impact to the user experience. GMR-1 is the most widely deployed MSS standard worldwide.
