An important component of President Barack Obama’s recently announced economic stimulus package, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, is a National Broadband Plan designed to increase the availability of broadband nationwide. The program includes grants to build infrastructure for both wired and wireless networks. Hughes has participated actively in various forums presenting the Satellite Industry Association (SIA) position, namely, that satellite is the only technology available nationwide, and has an important role to play in accelerating broadband access in rural and underserved areas. |
