Broadband Service to Remote Areas
Local governments rely on Hughes to supply high-speed Internet access in areas not served by terrestrial broadband service. HughesNet services can help remote local government agencies cross the "digital divide" by supplying a range of service plans to fit the budget. These plans are filed with the GSA Schedule 70 which can be utilized by local government.
Montgomery County Fire Department, Maryland Urban Search and Rescue
Federal COOP requirements, including the National Response Framework (www.fema.gov/emergency/nrf/), require agencies to ensure continuity of network communications during a crisis. When Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast in 2005, rendering terrestrial networks inoperable, the Maryland Urban Search and Rescue team was ready and able to help with HughesNet satellite solutions. Using HughesNet, the team was able to monitor news and access information in real-time about the affected areas and offered complete freedom of mobility – giving them the ability to go online virtually anywhere in North America.
