GVF Announces Winners of 2008 Board of Directors Key Executives to Lead International Association's Efforts to Promote Expanded Delivery of Satellite-Based Solutions Worldwide LONDON, United Kingdom, October 22, 2008 – The international association of the satellite communications sector has confirmed that seven key industry executives have been elected to the Global VSAT Forum (GVF) Board of Directors, through which they will lead the organisation's continuing efforts to advance the provision of satellite-based solutions throughout the world. “With this election, the international satellite sector has sent a clear signal that their commitment to enabling the delivery of state-of-the-art communications solutions has never been stronger,” said David Hartshorn, Secretary General of GVF. “These leaders were elected and, in some cases, re-elected by the industry because they have the experience and vision needed to guide the association through the next successful phase of the industry's history.” The new GVF Board of Directors was elected by the Full Membership during the organisation's Annual General Assembly, which was held on October 13, 2008, in New York City. The new Board of Directors includes the following executives:
GVF is the non-profit association of the satellite communications industry (www.gvf.org). The organisation comprises more than 200 companies from 100 countries based in every major region of the world and from all sectors of the industry, including fixed and mobile operators, earth station and sub-system manufacturers, integrators, teleports, network operators, and carriers, as well as consultants, law firms, and other organisations that are instrumental in the communications sector. Supported by two Secretariat offices, seven working groups, and 14 affiliate offices, the Forum facilitates the provision of satellite-based communications solutions throughout all nations of the world. GVF works closely to support national-, regional- and global-level policy makers as they formulate state-of-the-art satellite regulatory and spectrum-management frameworks. The organisation is also responsible for creating greater awareness of the commercial, economic, political and technological advantages that satellite-based communications provide. This is achieved through the creation of informative online and print resources, as well as through dozens of conferences held each year. GVF's award-winning Education and Training Programme – which has trained thousands of professionals throughout the world – is another important means by which these aims are achieved (http://gvf.coursehost.com). A closely related GVF priority is facilitating the use of satellite communications not only in developed nations but also in developing countries. The organisation provides capacity building for all communications stakeholders and actively works to enable more effective collaboration between private and public sector interests. In this regard, GVF is a supporter of the International Telecommunication Union ‘Connect the World' initiative, among other critical development programmes.
