FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Televías Andinas Group Chooses Hughes to Support Fondo de Inversión en Telecomunicaciones Peru's FITEL Digital Inclusion ProjectHughes HN System enables cost-effective solutions for fulfilling universal service obligations Germantown, Md., August 4, 2009 — Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), the global leader in broadband satellite solutions and services, announced today that it has been selected by Televías Andinas Group Peru to provide the Hughes HN broadband satellite system to support the Fondo de Inversión en Telecomunicaciones (FITEL) digital inclusion program in Peru. The aim of the FITEL project is to provide universal telecommunications services to underserved rural and remote areas of the country. Televías Andinas will utilize the Hughes HN series hub and HN7740S satellite terminals to provide broadband Internet access and voice services to over a thousand rural communities. The HN broadband satellite system is fully compliant with the IPoS/DVB-S2 standard, including ACM (adaptive coding and modulation) and is designed to support a wide range of bandwidth-intensive services, including Voice over IP (VoIP), high-speed Internet access, interactive distance learning, video conferencing, and multimedia streaming. Hughes is the first company to implement DVB-S2 with ACM (Adaptive Coding and Modulation), the most efficient implementation available, which yields up to 50 percent greater throughput over the original standard. “Satellite communications is an essential technology for governments to utilize as they modernize the vital infrastructure that drives economic development, especially in a mountainous country like Peru,” said Miguel E. Munoz, general manager of Televías Andinas. “With the HN System, we will be able to provide broadband connectivity in any corner of the country as required by our contract with Fondo de Inversión en Telecomunicaciones FITEL.” “The bandwidth efficiency of the Hughes equipment coupled with its scalability and ease of installation make it perfectly suited for this application,” continued Munoz. “With Hughes, we can provide the highest quality connectivity regardless of bandwidth requirement, location, business application, satellite band or topology. “We are very pleased that Televías Andinas has chosen the HN System to implement the FITEL digital inclusion project,” said Nick Marzella, vice president of the Central America and Latin America group (CALA) at Hughes. “It is very important to provide broadband services to even the most remote areas of a country in order to promote economic development. The HN system will allow Televías Andinas to offer broadband IP services along with voice applications for multiple programs and applications in Peru.” About Televías Andinas S.A.C.
